Eating Clean 12/12/12

12/12/12 meant nothing really to me until I saw someone mentioning this is the last time we will have this type of day! Ah ha moment for me! We can't have 13/13/13 ever!

Well here are the last few days:

Tuesday:
Bfast- Cooked oatmeal with mixed berries and a tsp of honey to sweeten
Am snack- Pomegranate seeds
Lunch- My favorite salad: Diced peppers, cucumber, celery, carrots and feta (usually I have chicken in it as well). I used Greek and feta dressing to top it off and make it oober delicious!

PM snack- Celery and hummus
Supper- My favorite thing seems (Scrambled eggs with peppers, spinach and feta)

Can you tell I like feta? I just like how it feels a lot lighter in my stomach. I know it's high in sodium..but still!

Wednesday:

Bfast- Fiber one bar
Am snack - Edamame beans and pear
Lunch- Same salad as yesterday
PM snack- Celery and hummus, Fiber 1 bar
Supper- Salmon burger - I bought these salmon patties at Superstore and thought I would try them. You can bbq them or fry them so today I fried them. I used my ancient grains toast instead of a bun and stuck some lettuce and cheese on it. Quite delish!

Until tomorrow! xxx

Eggaliscious

So after being away this weekend I will not be tracking all my meals and snacks but tell you some highlights.

Friday morning was the best of all breakfasts! I got inspiration off of Lauren Conrad's website and turned it into my own thing. Do try it sometime!!

Ingredients: One egg, red pepper, spinach, avocado and feta. The feta I use after the scrambled eggs are done. There is definitely more veggies than eggs, but it just tastes soo wonderful!

Other foods worth mentioning:

I was away all weekend and trying to keep the eat clean type of food going..while watching UFC Saturday night I came across a wonderful healthy option on the menu. Thin crust peperoni and feta with multigrain crust! Yes it's not the perfect meal, but it feels way less greasy with the feta cheese and just tastes scrumptious!

Grapefruit- I used to eat this fruit alot as a kid, but haven't much in past years. How delicious this food is and very healthy for you!

Something I would like to try. I found this on a girl's Instagram. It is Greek yogurt  almonds, all bran  googiberries, but I am sure you could vary this mix and it still taste delish! I will let you know once I try it!

Fitness- If you are away and can't get to the gym there are still ways to get exercise in. Try this: hiking 15 mins in powder that sometimes you sink down up to your knees. No need to do the leg press when you have this workout!! Snowboarding is like my drug...it gives me such a high. I just wish I could get the high every weekend!

Until next time!

Day 4

You know you are exhausted when....you think you're making coffee in your Keurig in the morning and when you add the milk after all you have is milk, sugar and water!! Can you tell I am not a morning person? Maybe this is why I love my smoothies. I can literally grab and go!

Bfast- Smoothie with even more spinach in it!

Morning snack- Edamame beans..I don't know why, but I love these! And they are filling!!

Lunch- Chicken filet with mixed veggies

Afternoon snack- Pear and carrots and humus

Supper- Smoothie: oats, spinach, mango, berries, lactaid milk, greek yoghurt and 2 scoops of protein powder.

Tonight I needed to workout, but knew I needed some energy in me, so with advice from a friend decided to go the smoothie route. I realized I was out of banana though and sure did miss the taste in my smoothie. I can't get over the fact of how filling smoothies are!

Workout- I have got myself up to 35 mins cardio in my workout. Mostly always run, as I want to keep my endurance up for another run this spring/summer. In hopes to not plateau I ran with varying inclines today...boy did that push me! I am starting to see results and can't wait to see more.

Well off to get some much needed sleep.

Much love,

Your exhausted Canadian Girl

Countdown to Christmas- EatClean Style

DAY 1

Welcome to my EatClean Style post...yes this is even more epic than Gangnam Style stuff!

Instead of getting fatter by all the Christmas goodies I am bound and determined to get leaner and just eat more healthy! Thanks to my dearest blogger friend Serena, I am bound and determine to keep a daily log of my meals and snacks. More for me to keep at it than for you, but feel free to follow the posts!

Where did it all began? Well for me I discovered eating clean last spring when I was training for a half marathon. I've always eaten healthy and grew up eating SUPER healthy, but teaching I don't often take care of myself. When training for my first ever and huge feat run I wanted to be in the best shape possible. I love how I felt when I Eat Cleaned before so I am on a mission to get that feeling back!

Here is a pic to show some snacks I prepared last night!

I have all sorts of veggies bagged in little proportions with hummus ready. Some bags of pomegranate seeds. Om nom nom!! Sadly I remembered today that my school is nut free so all my little nut bags I will have to save for weekends. My latest and greatest purchase!! The Magic Bullet for smoothie making!!

So Lloyd is such an up and coming place (SARCASM!!!) that no one at Sobey's had any idea about Chia seeds, Enamame beans or Quinoa! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope to have better luck at Safeway tonight!

Today's menu:

Bfast- Smoothie: half banana, berries, greek yoghurt, lactaid milk and 2 scoops of protein powder...FIRST TIME USING MY MAGIC BULLET!! Thanks sissy!!

Morning snack- Apple (no almonds :( )

Lunch- Wrap with chicken strips, feta cheese, peppers and  cucumber

Mid-afternoon snack- Banana and 2 hard boiled eggs

Supper- Pork chop with peas and zucchini slices

To top it all off...lots and lots of water!!

Tomorrow I am playing with quinoa! Hopefully it tastes as good as I am expecting it too!!

True North Strong and Free

As I sit here sipping my chai (my new love since Kenya), listening to Imagine Dragons (my new love in music) I am caused to remember what today is...Nov.11...I can never begin to imagine the life of the soldiers and their families from past and present. All I know is I am SOO thankful to be in a country that knows peace and freedom. We have SOO much to be grateful for.

Being the Canadian girl I am, I love to adventure around my country to unadventured places. This last weekend I ventured for the first time up to Yellowknife. Part of adventure to me is seeing and experiencing things for the first time.

N.W.T Firsts:

1. Stepping foot into North West Territories: I don't know if it was because I grew up in the North, or because I had to teach about it, but I have wanted to see that country for a long time! Unlike anything really I have ventured to before! The closest thing I can compare it too is a rural Newfoundland village, but in a colder climate.
2. Seeing wild bison: Wow, they really are a massive majestic creature! I wouldn't want one charging me!
3. Seeing a wolf: Mr. Wolf was not scared of us! First thought...hmm..it's not like we're in Banff National Park where they see millions of tourists in a year..Why is he not running from us?...WAIT...he's a wolf and is scared of NOTHING!
4. A ferry that breaks ice: I felt like I was on a new and improved Titanic breaking through icebergs!
5. Being in the middle of nowhere: I always felt like I grew up in the middle of no where, but I had a new found understanding of what the middle of no where is.

My other impressions of N.W.T.

All the people in N.W.T. were so nice and friendly! The homes are unique as ever. They build above ground because of the rock. Lots of colour and rectangle boxy 2 stories. You freeze instantly no  matter what you where with that arctic wind..no wonder it isn't all about style up there!

You know you are in the north when....
- you drive on completely snow covered roads for over 2 hrs.
- you wear 4 layers of clothes and are still cold instantly.
- you can talk to people who have hunt polar bears on a yearly basis.

Here are just a few pics!

Back to life

And....3 1/2 months later! Oh how so much changes! I am now in a new city, with a new job and a new life. Thinking back to summer, it seems a lifetime ago and I am already on the countdown for next summer! A few highlights from my summer were definitely time with my cousin, time at the lake and my first trip to Vegas with some amazing ladies!

Now on to the present things: I have been having a hard time balancing work and life. Since the beginning of October I have started back at the gym. Every time I go I up my game and seem to rise to the challenge! I do need more ideas though for ab workouts. Any ideas?

A little fitness tip to pass on from my bro. After workout snacks: Wait a half hour and have something light like a banana, yogurt, egg.

Finally a recipe I must share. I haven't made this in awhile but I do love it! Sesame chicken stir fry thanks to Pinterest!

Ingredients:
- Canola oil for frying
- 2 egg whites
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 1/2 lb chkn breasts, cut crosswise into 1/4 inch strips
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 lb snow peas , strings removed.
- 1 red bell pepper, cut into 1/2in strips, then halved crosswise
- 3/4 sesame stir fry sauce
- 2 tsp toasted sesame seeds

What to do:
In an electric wok (med-high) pour oil to a depth of 1 inch and heat till simmering. Line baking sheet with paper towels. In a bowl, whisk together the egg whites and cornstarch. Season the chicken with salt and pepper. Add to the bowl and stir completely to coat the chicken in the egg mixture.

In 4 batches, add chicken to oil. Fry, turning the pieces occasionally and making sure they don't stick together. About 4 mins per batch or until light golden. Transfer to baking sheet.

Transfer oil to heat-safe bowl. Increase wok to high and put back in a Tbsp of oil to wok. Add snow peas and bell peppers and stir-fry to crisp tender (4 mins). Return chicken to wok and add stir-fry sauce. Mix and heat for 1 minute. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Rice is the perfect match!!

Well this is all for today...next time I'll try to share some of my Freezer recipes that have been lifesavers for the crazy month of September. If you have delish recipes you'd like to share with me..please pass them along!

Luvs you all!!

Precious moments

Well, I'm sure you all thought I had died by now...I thought I was...but here I have made it to the end of a hard year of teaching. This past month has felt like I have been handed one curve ball after another. I am very glad it is over and most definitely looking forward to future days.Tomorrow marks my last day in Edmonton teaching Grade 6. Next month, I move on to bigger and better (...not really :s!) ...Lloydminster. I am very thrilled to be teaching the little tikes in Grade 1! I love adventures and I can't wait to embark on this new journey in my life.

This past week I have learned a very hard/tearful/painful lesson...How valuable life is and how we need to be thankful for each moment and each of our relationships. I also learned that no...exam results of my students are not the end of the world. So to all of my friends out there..I truly thank you all for all you do!

As promised last time, this blow will have a few pics from my half marathon back in May and also I am planning to thrill all you shoe divas out there!

Figgie shoes- My friend Kimberley was showing me this website last month. This lady is truly a brilliant shoe artist! By what I understand, you send her your shoes and she will paint them how you'd like. I am attaching the link to the website as well as a few pics, as I have never seen anything quite so amazing! As her website will show, she not only does wedding footwear, but junior shoes and anything else you request!!

http://www.figgieshoes.com/the-artist.php

This is truly a lasting memory! So thankful I shared it with my sister!

That will be all for tonight. Now that summer is almost here, I am hoping to add to my blog some great summer recipes...and if I'm diligent, more of my fitness journey!

Much love,

Your Canadian Girl

Trifecta of knowledge

First of all friends, I don't know if I used trifecta in its proper sense, but I like the word so I gave it a shot! Basically it means I have 3 types of awesomeness to share with you!

1) Music awesomeness- I need to make this very clear to start. I am not a big fan of American Idol and I do not follow it. However, my ladies at work do and they made me listen to one of the contestants. In the first 5 seconds of hearing his voice I knew I was in love. He has a rough, raspy tone which I relate to as a Mumford and Sons or Ray Lamontagne sound. Amazingly, this guy ended up winning the show! I look forward to hearing more music from him!

Folks I present to you... Phillip Phillips!

Volcano- Phillip Phillips

His first official original- Home

2) Food awesomeness- Now that cool fruit is back in our stores you must try a smoothie! This week I tried making this with Strawberry flavored greek yoghurt, blackberries, strawberries and bananas. I wanted to add some protein in the shake, so I added a Tbsp of peanut butter. Sonya says it tasted like peanut butter and jelly! A delicious concoction!

3) Book worm awesomeness- I was challenged to read the Hunger Game series and was warned it was addicting. I had gotten through a few chapters this past week, but hibernated last night and a good part of today reading the book. It was FANTASTIC! I look forward to reading the 2nd book in the series!

My next blog will be shoe-licious!! xxx

Thing 30- Things to be Remembered by

Wow! I have made it! We are now at thing 30! It has not been perfect (1 post a day), but I must say it was almost perfect for this busy lady!

List 10 things you would hope to be remembered by:

1) My smile
2) My kindness
3) My goofiness
4) My love for children
5) My voice
6) My love for Zumba (possibly tying into the goofiness)
7) My style
8) My love of bright colours
9) My love of chai lattes
10) My lovableness (and my ability to create a new vocabulary!)

Sneak peak into my future: As of last night....there is a very probable possibility that I will be running the Spartan Race in Calgary this August! Check out the link! I think it looks like a great challenge but lots of fun!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=9ftAgxDRjbQ#!

The future of my blogging: More fitness...I want to get more music into this blog as well because I love music so much! As well I'm finding many great food/meal/recipes on Pinterest that I would love to try and then share! See you around!

Thing 29- Misunderstandings

Let's start off with today's question and then I will fill you in with my lack of presence on my blog this past week!

Today's question: What do you think people misunderstand most about you? I can't think of a serious one...but people think I have the best job because I have 2 months off. As well people think because I am a teacher that I have all the money a girl needs. I wish what they thought was true, but it's far from that..I won't go into detail and complain...but it's just not as easy as it sounds.

My lack of presence on my blog? Well for one, work has been insane with corrections. As well I was doing some last training for the half marathon and then the LONG WEEKEND!!

Top 5 of my May Long Weekend!

1) My man- He is great for so many reasons and I was so lucky to get to spend part of my long weekend with him! He's funny, kind, loving, great with kids! Here's a few pics to show you why I love him!

2) I ran a half marathon with my sister! It felt AMAZING to do such a challenge and to share the experience with my sister! The training payed off and I think I am going to have to try another one sometime in my future! My sister was a real trooper! Like I said I love adventures and let me say that this journey has been a real adventure. I have developed a love for running that I never knew I had in me! Pics to come :)

3) Two great friends got married on my birthday!! Mitch couldn't wipe that smile off his face through the whole ceremony. Feel lucky to be considered their friend! Mitch has been SUCH a great support and friend throughout the last few years in Edmonton. It has been great to get to know Kelsey more and to see them as a couple. I can't wait to see what is ahead for them. Love you both!!

4) My family- Was great to spend time with my parents, brother, sister and nephews. My family spoiled me with my favorite meals and birthday cake! My little 5 year old nephew today came and gave me a giant hug after breakfast telling me that he loved me and misses me! Melted my heart! I got to watch my little nephew come out of the bathroom with sheer excitement because he took his first ever poop in the big toilet!! Was soo cute to watch how proud he was over this BIG accomplishment!

5) An extra long weekend! Because I have tomorrow off, I got to truly enjoy today by sticking my nose in a great book! I'm on the last book of the Millenium series and quite enjoying it! I encourage you to read them if you have never picked that series up!

Tomorrow although I have off will be spent working...always a nice feeling with you have a day that you get LOTS accomplished with minimal distractions!

Tomorrow's post will be the last of the 30 things challenge!!

Until then!! xxx

Thing 28- Love Language

Today's question: What is your love language?

Words of affirmation:

Actions don't always speak louder than words. If this is  your love language, unsolicited compliments mean the world to you. Hearing the words 'I love you," are important- hearing the reason behind that love sends your spirits skyward. Insults can leave shattered and are not easily forgotten. - This is what the website said after I took the quiz!

This makes so much sense in many ways. In a relationship I need to hear that things are great and that I am loved. Work wise, I need to hear that I am doing a good job for me to believe that I am.

5 sleeps until race day!!! This last week I am just running little 5 Kms to keep me in shape, but not to tire my legs out too much.

A great snack? Try a grapefruit! I love it! I used to eat it ALL the time and now I never do, so it was a great treat!

Until tomorrow! xxx

Thing 27- Favorite thing

This is a great distraction from my correcting but here I go!

Today's question: What is your favorite body part and why? Okay here goes to me being really vain....my favorite body part...is NOT my crooked nose or my hazel eyes, or my baby hairs or my my short legs and thick thighs...I most like my boobs. Ha vain right? They are the perfect size in my eyes..not to big and not to small....I don't really want to have kids because I fear of me loosing what they are right now!

Food note: I ate the salmon salad today! Great tasting, but I would add a little feta cheese and some fresh balsamic vinaigrette when I go to eat the salad.

As well for supper I made a really easy smoothie...the recipe comes from Pinterest! Here's the link!http://keepyourdietreal.com/food/news/20-quick-and-healthy-breakfast-ideas/ It's a website with tons of quick, easy and healthy breakfasts!

5 days till race day!! Eeeek!

Lastly, Music note: It is truly a sappy song but I love it!I discovered it today. Can you guess where?!...Yes...8tracks.com!!  It's called Perfect Two by Auburn..here's a few lines of the lyrics:

You can be the peanut butter to my jelly
You can be the butterflies that I feel in my belly
You can be the captain
And I can be your first mate
You can be the chills that I feel on our first date
You can be the hero
And I can be your sidekick
You can be the tear That I cry if we ever split
You can be the rain from the cloud when it's stormin'
Or u can be the sun when it shines in the mornin'

Until tomorrow! xxx

Thing 26- World's Notions

I have been non-existant on my blog lately! Sorry my dear readers! The past week has been overwhelmingly  busy with work and this weekend was overwhelmingly beautiful and warm! The majority of yesterday and today were spent outside, so here I am not Sunday night blogging with a burn keeping me toasty warm!

Today's question: What popular notion do you think the world has wrong? I'm going to be specific to our society. It seems like to be successful here you have to be busy beyond all get out. Family's split, kids have issues with drogues, theft etc all because there is no time spent as a family anymore...why? Because everyone is kept so busy with their work lives. A dear friend Laura reminds us often of how this isn't everywhere. Mexico takes time to relax, other countries have longer lunch breaks to allow their citizens to spend time outside and be refreshed. I truly wish our society could be more layed back.

Health note: 6 days till race day!!

Foodliscious: Right now I am making the salmon salad which I had intended to make last week. Basically you cook brown rice pasta and salmon. Meanwhile I cut up some of all the veggies I had. Tonight in my fridge I have carrots, red pepper and cherry tomatoes. The veggies are diced and mixed in a bowl with some spinach. When the pasta is done, I will mix that in the veggies. I will mix all of that in balsamic vinaigrette. Lastly, I will flake the salmon and mix it in my salad. This salad could have whatever veggies you choose to put in it! I'll let you know tomorrow how tasty it is!

Breakfastliscious: A breakfast that is simple and that I love is....granola with greek yoghurt, a tad of lactaid milk and fresh raspberries. Try it! It's lovely!

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

Thing 25- Dinner with ancestors!

Right now I am writing with a frozen mouth. The last time it should be frozen for awhile now. My friends say I sound frozen when I text them so I apologize for sounding sloppy tonight!

Health note: Today I tried adding avocado and tomatoes to my breakfast sandwich which consists of egg, toast and bacon. I've never been a big avocado fan but it is a great source of minerals and vitamins. I must say I enjoyed it!

Today's question: If you could have dinner with anyone in history, who would it be and what would you eat?

There are so many people I would love to meet and learn more about!

One that comes to mind is Noah from the Bible...I can't imagine what his life would have been like!

Another is Einstein...I have heard he was so smart that he was weird...I am curious as to if I could hold a conversation with him and what he would compare to in our world today!

What would we eat?! That's pretty random! I guess my favorite fancy meal: Ribs!

Tomorrow I will try and put up a recipe I am going to make tonight!!

Until tomorrow xxx

Thing 24- Family Dynamics

Today has been a roller coaster day: Firstly a dear friend got bad news job wise :(...then I managed to run 19.5 K....longest yet! :) :) ....then I find out that a dear boy who has been battling cancer is in his last days. :( :( Hard to hear of a young life being cut short. Don't mean to get you all down, but it has just been what I have been thinking about today.

19.5 K!! YEY!! I must say I enjoyed the first 15 K!! But the last 5 were tough to keep motivated. I loved the new route I took, a new adventure! I found an intriguing path that I only ran down a short distance, but it is a MUST to go back there on my next run!

Today's question: What is your family dynamic of your childhood versus now?

You think I'm going to remember back to when I was a kid?! Me and my brother were tight and my two older sisters always fought! Now we all get along but we are way too far away! I have always gotten along with mom and dad, but they get more and more special to me as the years go by! Mom and dad have both taught me great things and they are never far away for whatever question may arise!

Until tomorrow xxx

Thing 23- Hobbies

Life note: I must thank my brother for showing me 8tracks.com! I told you yesterday that if you are a runner you must  download the app, but if you are anybody you should! I use it now when I am marking...they literally have a playlist for everything! I keep so focused because it is not my own music. To top it off I love discovering music so this is a great way as well!

Fitness note: It is less than 3 weeks till my half marathon. Last night I went of Pinterest and used my Eat Clean book to create a menu for the week..snacks ..meals..everything! I had lots of fun and hope that I can stick as close to it as possible this week!

Today's question: List your top 5 hobbies and why you love them.

1) Listening to music-  Why do I love this so much? It puts me in a great mood. Or helps me deal with sadness etc. I don't know what it is about me but I thrive off of music. I love laying in bed in the dark listening to music, i love driving with my windows open and singing at the top of my lungs, I love singing in the shower to my favorite tunes, I'll even play tunes to help me wake up in the morning.

2) Going for runs- I have never been much of a runner until this spring. I must say it is an activity I am really hoping to keep around for a life time. I feel great after a run. I can enjoy the scenery and it gives me time to reflect on life. Love love love!!

3) Playing music -  This has been a hobby of mine since I was wee little. With my busy life I don't find the time like I used to play music! Thank goodness for summers! When I go home I love playing the piano (I hope one day to have my own!) and in the summer I love sitting outside, especially around a campfire, playing my guitar.

4) Reading- Again an activity I need to learn to fit into my everyday life. Usually on holidays like Christmas you will see me curled up with my nose in a book. I never like reading until probably Grade 11 or 12 and now I always have a long list of books to read next! I'm always open for suggestions too!

5) Baking/Cooking- I don't do this alot either, but I love it. I am big into adventures, so I like finding new recipes and trying them out! I can't wait until I have a family to try them on! Although my little kiddlies may not be into the adventures! I guess time will tell.

Until tomorrow! xxx

Thing 22- The future

Today's question: Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? 15 years?

Can I just say that I don't look very far into my future. Today and tomorrow always seems to be lots to deal with! Think about 10 and 15 years is kinda crazy!

5 years: 5 years will put me at 30. I hope to be married to the man of my dreams and maybe even have one kid! Maybe teaching part-time. I imagine probably owning a house in a city/town. Seeings as I'll be moving to Lloyd this year, maybe 5 years will find me there...maybe though I'll be somewhere new! I'm hoping that in 5 years time I can say that I have traveled to some amazing spots in the world. I want to say that I have been sky diving!

10 years: This puts me at 35. Maybe I'll have 2-3 kids by then. In my ideal world, I would love to be a house mom by this time. I love cooking and trying new recipes and I don't mind cleaning..so a house mom I would love to be. Ideally as well I would love to be on an acreage by this point in my life. Hopefully I am surrounded by some amazing friends. I too hope in ten years time I'll have a healthy mom and dad still that I can have fun with!

15 years: This puts me at 40...AHHH SCARY!!! Hopefully I will be on an acreage for sure by this point. With 3 of 4 kids? I hope to travel with my growing family. I want to be a stylin mama at 40!

LIFE NOTE: Okay so I went to Lloyd about 3 weeks ago and one of my car pool buddies ordered a White hot chocolate with a peppermint tea bag in it from Tim Hortons. I decided to try it Friday and it is HEAVENLY! It's so funny ordering it because it always throws the TH employees off! ....¨¨A tea bag in you say?!¨¨

FITNESS NOTE: When leaving on my run today I had planned on running 20 K. I wasn't a very wise girl today because I had only ate a banana and granola bar all day. So a run at 5 p.m. with only that in my stomach was not fitting for a 20 K run! I managed to make it 11K with one stop at Safeway for some Gatorade. The Gatorade did help bring life back into me enough to make it the 11K distance. Maybe Monday I can make the 20K...I felt like I disappointed myself, so a good lesson learned today!

On a positive note: I downloaded the 8tracks radio app on my phone. ALL RUNNERS YOU MUST GET THIS!!! I found a workout playlist that took me through my run. I love it because it is not the typical songs on my Iphone. I get more energy when I listen to new, or old....different music.

Until next time...tomorrow? xox

Thing 21- Supapowas

Today's question:  If you could have one superpower, what would it be and what would you do with it first?

Funny that this question pops up now. My students this past week had to write about what talent they would choose if they could. What would I pick? I have two in mind:

1) Fly- This is the typical one that I think everyone has imagined! I would like it because then I think I could afford to travel! I want to travel the world, but I just got no money to do it! As well with my dear sister and her family so far away, flying would allow me to visit them more often.

2) Remove bad memories/feelings- I know that bad memories/experiences/feelings help shape a person. I am a firm believer that it makes one stronger. But it hurts me to see people hurt. I would love to just go and take away whatever is causing them to hurt. I don't know about you, but I have had bad memories that have bombarded my mind and wouldn't go away. As much as I tried, I would think about those things. At times like that it would be great to have the power to make them disappear!

Fitness note: My goal this weekend is to run 20 km...that is 1 km short of the half marathon...I checked the weather and it seems like I will be able to train outside in some sun! I know that is a big goal but I hope I can reach it!

I don't know about you...but I can't WAIT for the weekend!!

Until tomorrow!! xxx

Thing 20- Childhood memories

Okay folks, you must read my life note first before reading today's question. Why? Well I have exciting life news today!!!!

Life note: At my interview last night I was told I would hear whether I got the job or not today or tomorrow. Well tonight at about 9 p.m. I saw that I had a email on my phone. Low and behold it was the superintendent of the school division. Ready to hear about his message??!!..........Well......He offered me a FULL TIME probationary (meaning 1 yr contract) position at the ONLY French Immersion school in the Lloyd region!!!!! EEEEK!!! Even better, it will become a permanent contract half way through next year....So folks...I AM MOVING TO...Lloydminster. It has something I have been looking at since February. It was something I was not a fan of to start, but now I have come to terms with being further away from family and I am quite liking the idea of being close to the love of my life!

Okay okay...Today's question: What are 3 of your childhood memories?

1. This memory I have already shared earlier so I will make it brief. I remember being stung in the mouth by a bee when I was three. Ever since I have been quite afraid of these mini monsters.

2. When I was little we went to get a new lab. There was a litter of them and I was so excited to pick one out. I fell instantly in love with the outsider of the group: a cuddly black lab. I was crushed when my parents decided to pick the yellow lab. If they had only listened to me! Our dog ended up being a dog version of the energizer bunny! Don't get me wrong..I loved our dog Sheeba. But to this day, I still think that if they had only listened to me, we could've had a calmer dog!

3. By the end of this one you will think I am a spoiled brat. When my mom turned forty some friends of ours planned a surprise party. Dad was in on it too. None of us kids knew, so the plan of the Friday night was to go swimming. As a 9 year old from the country, a trip into town for swimming was quite the occasion. We had to make a stop to our friends house on the way ....and SURPRISE!!! Well I was some mad! My swimming night had got ruined by a silly surprise party! haha oooooh my right?!

Only 10 more of these crazy posts!!

xxx- This Canadian Girl needs to try and settle it down now. Until tomorrow!

Thing 19- I dream a dream....

Well fellow friends, here I thought I wouldn't get a chance to blog and here I am. Almost missed the mark though!

Today's question: If you could live anywhere, where would it be and why?

Dreaming big: Somewhere in Tahiti where I could lay on the beach all day and play my guitar, or surf. I'd love to live in a beach hut!!

Somewhat more realistic: Last year, I really tried to move to BC.For example Kelowna. And to this day that would be my place I would choose..Why you may say? Let me help you!!

1. I LOVE my family, so I don't want to be countries away.
2. I am a proud Canadian girl!!
3. I am a huge fan of winter, but in past years I have discovered I am a even BIGGER fan of mild winters.
4. I could still work, but be super close to the mountains.
5. There are tons of lakes so I could spend my summer camped out on a beach or out on the lake boating.
6. I love the outdoors and out there I saw lots of beautiful country side.

Last year when I was out in Vernon, Kelowna area, I nicknamed that area my paradise in Canada. This is exactly why I would be thrilled to live out there.

Life note: Excited to go, but sad to leave is kind of my thoughts of the day. I had an interview that went well!! So now I have to wait for the verdict! I am enthusiastic and exhilarated to take another step in my life, but I am sad for the amazing people I will be leaving here. In the past 3 years at my job, I have worked with some amazing, fun, supportive, creative ladies. They have became dear friends to me. We are at different steps of our lives, but we just mesh so well. It will be a tough spot to fill in my heart.

Until tomorrow xxx

Thing 18- Forgiveness

Yes, yes...it has been a few days!

Today's question: What has been the most difficult thing you have had to forgive?

I think the hardest thing to forgive was a certain person. Something came into the picture of a past boyfriend. True or maybe not true, but it caused a lot of hard times. It has taken me years to finally get past it. I must say though that it does feel good to be able to truly forgive.

Fitness note: I am 20 days away from a half marathon! Eeeeek! My life is so crazy and I don't know what I'll get my last training in. That being said I am SUPER STOKED!!!

Life note: I have an interview tomorrow! A catholic school division, so lots new. WISH ME LUCK!!! I really hope I make a great impression! Thanks to all my friends who have helped me out in this process. I am sad/scared to be leaving my school, but the anticipation and excitement is there too! A new page for Mme Maralee!!!

See you tomorrow! :) xxx

Thing 17- Wishful Thinking

Okay, so the past couple days have been BUSY!!! I have an interview on Tuesday that I have been preparing for, which is the reason for a missed day on my blog!

Today's Question: What is the thing you most wish you were great at?

I have two answers for this. The first is more on an internal/personal level and the 2nd is a more light hearted/external level.

For the more light hearted one there are many ideas...mechanics, art, sports...but which do I wish most for...I have decided I most wish to be a performing artist. Not one that is famous with paparazzi following me all over, but I would love to do the shows in coffee shops or even a little bigger venues. That's one thing I miss most about my childhood, because I love performing. I am picturing me singing with a guitar strapped around my shoulder.

On a deeper level, I wish I was better at managing stress. Work stresses me out most days. I spend my evenings working or thinking about all the things I SHOULD be working on. I would love some skills on how to be better an managing stress. I think I would enjoy every day a lot more.

Menu:  Supper tonight:  Maple Glazed Salmon...it's super easy and so delicious! Try it out! You'll love it!

Ingredients
1/4 cup maple syrup
2 Tbsp soy sauce
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 tsp garlic salt
1/8 tsp ground black pepper
1 lb salmon

1. Mix maple syrup, soy sauce, garlic, garlic salt and pepper
2. Put salmon in baking dish and coat with syrup mixture. Cover the dish and marinate salmon in the refrigerator 3 minutes, turning once.
3. Preheat oven 400 F.
4. Place baking dish in oven and bake uncovered for 20 mins or until easily flaked with a fork.

Thing 16- Accomplishments

Wow! I am already more than half way done this 30 things challenge!

What are 5 of your greatest accomplishments?

1) Going to Kenya....this is something that changed my life! It took a lot of dedication to raise money in order to be able to get there. Once I got there, it changed my life! I have never experienced as many new experiences as I did in those 23 days. Something I will NEVER forget.

2) Getting a full-time teaching job straight out of university. I consider this a great accomplishment because I feel like I have accomplished so many things teaching and because of teaching! I even got to by a car that I actually am proud of owning!

3) Learning to play guitar. With a little help from my lil bro, a now ex boyfriend and lots of background knowledge with music I have been able to learn both chording and picking on the guitar. Its my friend that I bring everywhere with me! My guitar allows me some fun with friends, but also its a way of escape when I'm upset.

4) Changing light bulbs on my car. Okay some of you may be laughing! But listen here....I don't just have any ordinary car..You can just pull out the light and pop in a bulb...ask my friend Todd, my bro or my bf. You have to weasel your way into the depths of your car! Ha its a slow process...but after doing one on my own last month I feel like an accomplished woman!

5) Half Marathon. Okay so...I haven't actually accomplished this quite yet, but I will have in less than a month. I have had many little accomplishments throughout my training and that has given me both outer strength and courage! I can't wait to say I have done the half marathon!!

FUTURE GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENTS...can I just say that making it to the end of June is going to be the greatest accomplishment yet?! Haha just CANNOT wait for summer holidays!

Until tomorrow :) xxx

Thing 15- Animals

If you were to be an animal, what would you be? A monkey!

I won't answer this in quite the depth that I teach my Grade 6s, but I will stick to giving you three reasons!

1) Monkeys get to act silly and play around! I love watching monkey videos, movies or live at the zoo. They are always bugging one another, just goofing off. In our society you are considered a lunatic if you do this all day!

2) Monkeys are adventurous! Think of a monkey in the wild! They get to swing from this branch to that, exploring the jungle! I LOVE exploring and would love to just be free to do just that!

3) Monkeys are nurturing! I love watching monkeys hug each other, or pick the dirt out of their partners back. Even though they are goofs, they really know how to love.

I don't know what it is but this week's theme for me and seems like a few others is : EXHAUSTION. Is it the millions of things going on in school, or the trying to find a job search with teaching, or the cloudy sky. Not sure but I could just curl up and sleep right now?! Well guess what?! Instead this Canadian girl's is going to shower up and watch a Disney Earth about...CHIMPANZEES! How fitting!!

Until tomorrow :) xox

Thing 14- Strengths

I must say I like this post better than yesterday's!

Describe 5 strengths you have.

1. I find joy in little things. For those who know me, it doesn't take much to make my day or to get me excited! I love that part of me.

2. I am organized. Teaching demands organization. Sometimes I don't feel organized at school. I think that is because there are SOO many things to organize!

3. I am positive.  I always try to see the good in everything. I think finding in joy in little things helps one stay positive.

4. I am a good friend. I hope that is what my friends think anyways! Ha! I know I try hard to stay in contact with those both far and near, whether it's a text or visit.

5. Open- minded. I feel I am open-minded. I try to understand the other side of things and not to judge. My trip to Kenya I feel has helped me be more open-minded.

Okay...so this is harder than talking about my weaknesses!!

Today is vote day in Alberta!! My students loved their chance to vote!!

Until tomorrow!! xxx

Thing 13- Weaknesses

Wow! How about this! I get to tell you all the bad things about me today!

Describe 5 weaknesses you have.

1. I am not observant. As a teacher I consider this a big weakness. I didn't really notice this until I started hanging out with very observant people! ...Well there are two things that I am very observant about though..nice trucks and hot guys.

2. Perfectionist. I consider this both a strength and a weakness. I ensure that my work is done very well. I am probably harder on myself than others. This is a weakness though because usually this means I end up working more and sometimes I allow work to come in front of life.

3. I validate myself by the way people think of me. I am someone who has never cared what people think...I do my own thing and dress my own way. But I never feel good enough. I believe I have done a good job at something once someone has told me I have done a good job. If no one says nothing, then I self doubt.

4. I have a hard time making choices. Making decisions always take forever because I always think about my options. I am never sure which is the best route! I would love to be able to dive into things without worrying!

5. Trucks....I dream every day of buying one!! hahaha

Other than that...well I hope you all enjoyed the AMAZINGLY WARM spring day!!

Thing 12- A day in the life of...

BEWARE!!! You are going to be blown away by a Day in the Life of Canadian Girl! If you aren't good at handling intense moments...STOP READING NOW!!

My day starts with an alarm at 6..proceeded by 4 other alarms that conclude at 7:11. My goal is to be leaving at about the last alarm, but that doesn't always happen! Upon arriving to work I grab a coffee and then I work from around 7 :30 until 8:30 in my quiet class. At 8:35 the mayhem begins when 26 kids stampede into my classroom. My days are VERY structured...pee break at 10:15...lunch at 11:30...2nd pee break at 2:05 and the class clears out at 3:27...by 3:45 my class has returned to its serene environment.

Lately my after work schedule involves either the gym or a run. If I'm lucky Ill make supper...or grab something from the fridge and them I resume my work at home. This school work continues until I wear out..10:30 usually. I get to finish my day with my bedtime routine: Words with Friends, Scramble with Friends, Draw Something and Pinterest. If my babe is not working or hasn't fallen asleep then I get to finish my day off with a "highlight of my day" phone call.

Did you survive that insane day?! Haha I must say this is probably my most boring question to post yet.

FITNESS UPDATE: Today made a record of my fastest mile!! Yipee!!!! My lovely NikeIpod app says that in kilometers that was 5 mins and 37 seconds in a kilometer. Kind of a highlight to my running adventure so far!

Until tomorrow! xox

Thing 11- Pet Peeves

Ahh! How I love today's question! What are ten pet peeves you have?

Where to start really?!

1) Slow drivers- most are women or immigrants seems! rgh!
2) Slow drivers in the left lane...double argh!!
3) When gas prices go up- it gets harder and harder to buy premium for my car
5) When people don't flush the toilet!
6) Egotistical men..or people for that matter
7) When parents don't give their kids an opportunity to learn to take responsibility for their actions.
8) Smokers...to me it's the grossest habit ever and I just can't understand
9) Immaturity...I love kids but it bothers me when they don't act their age.
10) The  alarm ringtone on Iphones...I want to throw the phone whenever that sound comes from somebody's Iphone.

Well..an early post! Imagine that...yes yes...well it's FRIDAY!!!!! This weekend consists of formal girl's night supper and hopefully UFC tomorrow night! A fight I have been LOOKING forward too!!

I must comment on my day! Today started with group messages at about 6:45 from my work friends...yes we were discussing the dresses we were wearing...what shoes we should wear and what hairstyles would work best. Strange teachers you may be thinking! Well...today was formal day at school and we decided to up the School Spirit among staff. We all took out our bridesmaid dresses and sported them to school. I love my dress so it was fun to show it off! I have never received so many compliments! Kids of all shapes and sizes and ages were coming up to me and commenting on my pretty dress! My students were awstrucken..if thats a word.

Notice the bulletin board title: Becoming the Best for the World!! Yes yes we sure are!!

I bought these shoes at Teacher's Convention time because I love the bling! Today was the first time I wore them.

Moral of the story: If you are ever feeling down...wear a pretty dress to work!

Thing 10- Embarrassing Moments

Before I answer the daily question I must say something about my day. Today a Grade 5 student in our school lost her mother. Her mom has been sick for several years. She often came into the school and we could always tell by her colour if she was doing well or not. It was heartbreaking to watch the 10 year olds deal with the news that their best friend lost their mom. Just think...her son and daughter will never have their mom around for big moments in their life..(getting her period, getting their driver's licence, graduating, getting married). I know both her kids and their mother was very dear to both of them. Mostly today just makes me ever so grateful that my parents have been able to celebrate with me all the big moments in my life so far. Little things you just take for granted.

Q: What is your most embarrassing moment? This is horrible...I am not trying to hide anything...but I honestly can't think of a really embarrassing moment! I think my brain has a great ability to put away any bad memories, as I often can't recall the bad things in life. One funny..maybe a tad embarrassing...but mostly funny moment this year was in class. I have a student Simon. In French and English you pronounce his name differently. Well one day this fall, I mixed the French with the English and called him Semen! The class got a good laugh at that!!

Tomorrow's the weekend!! xox

Thing 9- Influential People

Today's thing (I feel like I'm expanding Dr. Seuss' book!) is all about 10 people who have influenced me.

1. My grade 11/12 Social Teacher- High school seems so long ago so I can't remember which grade he taught me. I was contemplating universities and he told me Campus St. Jean was best if I wanted to teach in French. I am ever grateful because my university as my French is soo much better than it used to be.

2. My sister Jodie- It is all because of her and her hubby that I now love MMA so much!

3. My mom- My mom is the reason why I am a teacher. I have been around kids since almost day one!

4. The people of Kenya- My outlook on life was changed significantly when going to Kenya. I give credit to the people I met, as they showed me happiness does not come from what we own.

5. My uncle- He showed me how to keep first things first. He also showed me how to find all the positives in a negative experience.

6. My friend Pam- She is the very reason why I decided to go to Kenya.

7. My grandma- I am almost sure I got my love of music from her! She was always strumming her guitar!

8. My boyfriend Clint- He has taught me how to be flexible. I always used to have to have my weekends planned a month in advance. I have learned to love the joy that comes from doing things at the spur of the moment.

9. Frazer- My friend Jodie's son- Frazer was born almost a year ago and only lived 43 days I believe. In that time there was so much love that went around in that family. There is barely a day that goes by that I don't think of this little angel. He was truly a fighter. I believe that his touching story and the little time he did share, will help me to be a better mom...when that day comes for me.

There you have it!

Fitness Journey:  A quick little update! Today my friend convinced me to spend 30 minutes on a Stairmaster! Boy will I be in shape if I keep that up! I had trouble going down my stairs tonight to get to my car! haha ...one step closer to being ready for my half marathon!!

Thing 8- Passions

Well...I have got to say I am struggling to keep up with this 30- Day challenge. My life some days just fill up so quickly!

Today's question: What are 5 passions you have?

1. Teaching- Although, my job is hectic and definitely takes over my life during 10 months of the year, I have to say I love teaching. There are those little moments where I burst out laughing from a funny comment, or I burst with joy when a student grasps a concept, or better yet a tear up inside when a student mentions how much I mean to them.

2. Music- Ever since I've been little I have loved music....it has always been a way to deal with my emotions...and have fun with friends. Today I LOVE having time to pick away at my guitar. One day I hope to have a piano back in my house! To top it off...I love discovering new music, and if you are around me enough....I always have music playing.

3. Snowboarding- I have been in love with snowboarding ever since I got a Roxy snowboard for my 16th birthday.I call my style, choose you own adventure because I hate just sticking to the trail. I love playing around in powder and picking my way through the trees. It honestly is my biggest natural high.

4. Trucks- Even though I don't own one...I dream about owning one. GMC Sierra 2500 - Black...6 inch lift ..etc. etc...!!

5. MMA- If you are not an MMA person...this means Mixed Martial Arts. This is a new passion of mine, and currently I am not taking classes as I am trying to save money. I love watching UFC and anything related to it....and I look forward to when I can get back into it. Its a great workout and so much fun!!

FITNESS UPDATE!  I ran 12 k today in an hr and 12 minutes!! I have 9 km left to get to  my goal of 21 km and I have just over one month to get there! My new favorite after workout supper...scrambled eggs with spinach, red peppers and celery!! Try it sometime!!

Until tomorrow!

Thing 7- Dream Job

Believe it or not, my dream job is not the job I do right now. I do love my job most days, but it's definitely ALOT more work that I ever dreamed of! Kudos to any of you teachers with kids!

My dream job: Working for a foundation like Free The Children...in like Africa! Why? Well 3 years ago already (insert sad face here) I went to Africa! It was the time of my life. What I loved best is the simplicity of life. You were outside all day...with the happiest people on the Earth...no technology, no worries...a saying they have 'Hakuna Matata' meaning precisely no worries. My dream job would be to facilitate groups like the one I was in. The facilitators get to live in simplicity for a whole year, build relationships with the communities, help a good cause, and facilitate passionate travelers.

Yes I know I would miss home, but I have to say my time is Kenya I think I was the happiest I've ever been. The experience made me so grateful for all that I have. I don't like the hustle bustle of our Western World...Kenya was anything but hustle bustle!

So there you have it!

Thing 6- Hard Experiences

This one was supposed to be a Saturday post, but I am pretending it still is Saturday! I will post Thing 7 this evening.
What is the hardest thing you have ever experienced? This is a toughy I find. My brain seems to blot out hard experiences from its memory. I think the hardest experiences I have faced are to do with people. I attach myself so quickly and so much to people that when they are taken away from my life, I find it hard. Whether it was break-ups, losing relatives, being far away from family...these experiences to me have been the hardest.

Thing 5- Happiness

I LOVE today's blog subject! I have always been a happy person! In fact my middle name has meaning that indicates me as a happy person.

Today's question: What are the 5 things that make you most happy right now?

1. First and foremost in my boyfriend! In the past 5 years, we have had quite the experiences..lots of ups and downs. In the past 5 months we seemed to have finally figured out our relationship and it has been some of the happiest times of my life. He is so loving and super supportive. He always has the right things to say when I am feeling down and need a little lift. I am really looking forward to all the adventures that lie ahead of us!

2. My nieces and nephews- I still don't have kids of my own, which I am TOTALLY fine with! This being said...my niece and nephews bring me so much joy! They are always excited to see aunty. The things that their little minds come up with are priceless! Again, I look forward to watching them grow!

3. My friends- at work I have developed some great relationships with many fine women. I am the youngest of them all and I love listening to all their stories and advice. They are one or two steps ahead in life, than I am ..so I have lots to learn from them all. Outside of work I have great friends too! Friends seems to come and go out of my life, but I always have some good quality friends. From them, I also feel so much support and love when I am going through a tough time.

4. Music- I LOVE LOVE discovering music! I can always fine the right music to go with my mood. Music has always been a part of my life and I plan for it to be around for a very long time!

5. Spring- Spring right now is bringing me happiness for several reasons: I am that much closer to summer vacation!! We experienced our first rain today! Super refreshing. Longer days = a happier Canadian Girl. The list goes on and on, but long story short Spring puts me in a good mood!

Okay last but not least, my new 2nd favorite salad! This comes from my sister's Eat Clean Cookbook and I love it!

Warm Chicken Salad

Garlic and Herb Marinade: 3Tbsp of balsamic vinegar, 2 Tbsp oil, 3/4tsp of oregano,2 garlic cloves and 1/2tsp of Mrs. Dash. You cut your chicken and marinade it in the sauce for 20 minutes in the fridge.

Meanwhile: Cook 3 cups of rotini pasta (I use rice rotini). And cut up 2 c of mushrooms, 1/2 c of red peppers (in strips), 2 c of spinach (minus the stems) and 1 c of feta cheese.

When the chicken is marinaded, you cook it and the marinade for about 5 minutes then mix it into the salad.

Here's a pic before I stuck the chicken in! DELISH!!

Until tomorrow! XOX
